what to expect

Therapy that is accessible & comfortable

It takes a lot of vulnerability and courage to reach out and begin the therapy process - not even to mention the significant investment of time and finances therapy requires. We are honored that you would consider doing this work with us and value providing transparency and accessibility. Question not answered here? Feel free to reach out!

REACH OUT

step one

Get on our intake list.

The intake list gives us the information we need to determine if scheduling availability, insurance, and presenting issue are a good fit for the practice. Get added by filling out this form, emailing the therapist of your choice, and/or emailing the practice directly.

step two

A therapist will be in touch.

We will let you know if we can fit you in right away, if we need to add you to a wait list, or if we think a referral out is the best idea. We will schedule your intake session as soon as is possible.

step three

First session.

You will receive a link to our portal with some paperwork to fill out, we will verify your insurance benefits, and we will share details of getting to and from your session whether it’s virtually or in person. The first session will let us get to know one another to determine if it’s a good therapeutic fit.

INSURANCE

You have the option to self-pay or to use your insurance. We bill in-network insurance providers at our contracted rate (Blue Cross / Blue Shield PPO & United Behavioral Health / Optum PPO plans). If we are out of network with your insurance company, we can bill you up front for the cost of the session and provide you with a superbill for you to directly seek out of network compensation with your insurance company. We encourage you to reach out to your insurance company to verify your benefits and to find out what is covered.

support with billing

Our billing manager, Rebecca, will verify your benefits with insurance before you begin therapy and if you change insurance companies. We will also inform you if insurance is not paying as expected, as you are ultimately responsible for what insurance doesn’t cover. Please feel free to reach out to Rebecca with any questions or concerns related to billing of your credit card or your insurance company.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

  • Short answer is that it is totally up to you! We will work together to determine if your work is on the shorter end (less than 6 months). Deeper therapy takes time - at least a year. Many clients come to therapy longer term, even after symptom reduction, for maintenance, continued support, and self reflection.

  • Sessions will usually be weekly to start - this allows us to form a strong working alliance. Some clients will reduce after some time to biweekly sessions, especially after we shift more into “maintenance” mode.

  • Either / both are available! Sessions with Amanda are usually in-person at Rockwell on the River, though we can absolutely utilize virtual sessions as needed. Sarah and Defne work entirely virtually.

  • The office is conveniently located at the intersection of Logan Square, Avondale, Bucktown, & Lakeview. Just south of Belmont on Rockwell, along the west bank of the Chicago River.

    • By car: there’s free and easy parking in the courtyard, along Rockwell, and along almost all of the surrounding streets.

    • By public transportation: Belmont bus #77, Western bus #49, & California bus #94 are all close.

    • By bike: Racks are available in the courtyards.

  • From time to time, we do have some sliding scale slots open for clients who are not employed and do not have insurance.

  • Yes. We are in-network providers with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans, Blue Choice plans, and United Behavioral Health / Optum / UMR plans. After we have scheduled your first session, we are happy to call and verify your benefits for you.

  • We have a 24 hour cancelation policy. Cancels with less than 24 hours result in a late cancel fee equivalent to the amount we would have been paid for the session had it happened.
